Semiahmoo
Land Acknowledgement

The SEMYOME (Semiahmoo) are a Coast Salish people whose name means "place of the people." For thousands of years, they have lived along the shores of Semiahmoo Bay, Crescent Beach, and the Little Campbell River, sustained by the waters as skilled fishing people. Today, the Semiahmoo are a trans-boundary nation, with deep kinship ties to the Lummi and Nooksack peoples across the border — connections that endure despite the 1846 drawing of the Canada–US boundary, which divided their territory and separated them from traditional village and fishing sites. The Semiahmoo First Nation's community sits beside Peace Arch Park in South Surrey, where they continue to steward their lands, language, and culture.
